The submission deadline for the IBM Watson Developer Challenge for Conversational Apps is April 15, 2016. As you get started working on your app, you may want to check out these tips for developing with & making the most of the Watson Developer Cloud APIs.
Here’s how the WDC developer evangelists recommend getting started:
- Use the Dialog API to script your conversations and keep them moving smoothly.
- Use the Retrieve and Rank API to find answers to less commonly asked questions.
- Use the Document Conversion API to prepare your data for other Watson APIs.
- Use the Natural Language Classifier API to determine the intent behind user input.
One of our judges, IBM Watson Business Development Manager Charles Quincy, had this to say about building effective conversational apps:
“It’s not just about having a dialogue or answering a question. I am looking to engage the user naturally, solving the problem of ‘how do I respond to my end user in a way that empathizes with their experience and condition?’ There are many ways to answer a question in a conversation, but how do I answer that question meaningfully? Let's not forgot that there is a human asking these questions!
Thanks again for your participation, and I look forward to seeing what everyone puts together. Good luck!”
